Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas saw the 2-1 win over Juventus as “a big step” towards qualification.
Los Blancos maintained their 100 per cent record in the Champions League so far, going five points clear of second-placed Galatasaray.
“We have taken a big step here,” said Casillas. “Nine points out of three games is perfect.
“Now if we don’t lose, we’re into the next round.”
The match was marred by a controversial red card for Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder-to-shoulder with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Casillas had an explanation for why Real Madrid failed to do more damage to 10-man Juventus in the second half.
“When they went down to 10 men maybe we were at a disadvantage because I think they took a few more precautions.”
